SUMMARY:Reformation Sunday Service
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n\nINDEPENDENT LOYAL ORANGE INSTITUTION\nAnnual Reformation Service\nAs Protestants\, we celebrate the tradition that grounds our faith on Reformation Sunday. It is always the last Sunday in October\, marking the occasion in 1517 when Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on the church door in Wittenberg\, Germany. This event marked the beginning of the Reformation\, but it began with one man having the courage to follow his convictions and act upon what he believed. We would urge all members and friends to consider joining us in what will be a socially distanced and specially organised service to give thanks to God for his hand in history. \nIf you are planning on attending\, please check our social media in the days preceding to ensure that the event will be going ahead and any steps you will be required to take for your own and the safety of others. Due to the fast-changing situation and our determination to adhere to any government guidelines\, we may have to make a final decision in the week preceding the event. \nWe hope to be able to stream this event live on our Facebook page and a virtual exhibition will accompany it\, so please engage with our resources and if you are unable to attend\, set aside that time on that Sunday to join with us virtually. the speak will be the Rev David Park\, Ballymoney and we encourage members and visiting brethren to attend in regalia. All Welcome

SUMMARY:Eye to I Heritage Tour
DESCRIPTION:As part of our 120th Anniversary Celebrations we have developed an Independent Orange Heritage Tour of Belfast \nOne of the themes of our Anniversary Year is “Why the I” a programme to help our members and the wider community understand the history and legacy of the Order. \nAs we attract new members and encourage and engage existing ones we need to know our history and the reasons why the Independent Institution was formed. We also need to know what makes us distinct and how we differ from other Loyal Orders. The heritage tour will visit some of the iconic sites associated with the early Independent Order and rediscover the founding fathers and what motivated them. It will also discover the lasting legacy of the ILOI in Belfast and hopefully stimulate interest that will see its revival in the city. \nDiscover something new and develop a sense of pride in who we are! \n\n\n\n\n \n  \nTour Information Saturday 23 September \n\n\n\n\nBus leaves Ballymoney\, Seymour Street\nStopping at Ballymena ( possibly other points on A26)\nArrive Titanic Quarter\, Belfast\nTea/Coffee on arrival and opportunity to visit Titanic Centre ( not the full tour) \n \nEye to I Tour of sites related to the Foundation of the ILOI in Belfast including the shipyards\, Custom House Sq. Lewis Square with 1 hour to enjoy lunch at a range of local restaurants\, cafes and coffee shops (lunch is not included in price).\nAt this point if anyone wishes to stay and sample the local shopping centre and other attractions they will be picked up later. The rest of the group will return too the bus for the final stage of the bus tour and a visit to the Museum of Orange Heritage where items related to the ILOI will be on display and an exciting new exhibition on the Glorious Revolution can be explored. \nLeave the Museum 5pm with pickup at Connswater Shopping centre and return journey to Ballymoney via Ballymena. \nReturning before 7pm\nCost will be £15 per person with tea/coffee included. \nAll sites visited are accessible and toilet facilities will be available at most locations. \nTickets can be bought from lodges or by emailing mcneillstown@gmail.com \, alternatively we have an Eventbrite page promoting the tour with a limited number of online tickets for the general public event –  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/eye-to-i-tour-tickets-689183465297?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshwebdesktop \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Commemoration of the Landing of King William
DESCRIPTION:Wyck\, Jan; William III Landing at Brixham\, Torbay\, 5 November 1688; National Maritime Museum; http://www.artuk.org/artworks/william-iii-landing-at-brixham-torbay-5-november-1688-176186\nThe Glorious Fifth – the Fifth of November\nThe Glorious Revolution of 1688\, which shaped our Parliamentary Democratic Constitution and ensured a foundation for the freedoms we still enjoy today began when William Prince of Orange set foot in England on 5 November 1688. \nThe landing has been marked since and this year we will be going online to commemorate the events leading up to Williams successful claim to the throne. While known as the bloodless revolutions and aside from the Battle of Reading there were no real battles in England\, we are well aware of the loss of life and the sacrifices made by his supporters in Ireland. \nThe Glorious 5th November marks not only this Great Deliverance from ‘Popery and Arbitrary Power’ with the creation of a balanced Constitutional monarchy with the place of Parliament established and the path to democracy set; but also the deliverance from the Gunpowder Plot earlier in the century. \nTraditionally Orange Lodges would meet on or close to this date to commemorate the events\, that double deliverance of what was to become our British democracy. With COVID Restrictions we are taking this opportunity to mark this traditional anniversary at home with a commemorative dinner and then a traditional bonfire night.

SUMMARY:Fighting Fit Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Northern Ireland has had to literally fight for its survival. From the time of the Home Rule Crisis when unionists armed to defend their liberty against the implosion of a Dublin Parliament through the sacrifice of the Somme the sons and daughters of Ulster proved themselves willing to defend their hearth and home. The fledging state faced an onslaught from their neighbours to the South as they suffered daily incursions and attacks culminating in the invasion of County Fermanagh around Pettigo. This required British Army action supported by artillery barrage to take back that part of Northern Ireland. Co-ordinated with this was the terrorist campaign waged by the IRA from within the country\, assassination\, arson and insurrection aimed at toppling the new state continued for months. \n \nIn the face of this threat\, and the campaign of boycott by the nationalist community which refused to acknowledge the state\, the new Northern Ireland Government was forced to fight for its very survival and mobilised its own people. The Ulster Special Constabulary formed the backbone of this resistance\, and secured the border. Their determination\, local knowledge and fighting spirit saw the defeat of Irish Republican terrorism and Southern Irish Aggression in what should rightly be called the Ulster Irish War 1920-23. \nSadly this terrorist threat reared its head again in the Second World War as the IRA allied itself with Nazi Germany and indeed encouraged an invasion of Ireland. Churchill acknowledged the role of Northern Ireland in winning the war and De Valera’s Republic chose the wrong side once more. The 1950s saw another failed IRA ‘Border Campaign’ where once more the B Specials defended us and defeated the enemy. \nFinally under the guise of Civil Rights the new Provisional IRA and the political wing Provisional Sinn Fein launched a terrorist campaign that was to last over thirty years. Sadly this first target was the foe they could not defeat in the field – the B Specials. In an act of political appeasement this brave force was disbanded and with it went a key feature of our defence. Replaced by the Ulster Defence Regiment which in turn proved itself a worthy successor. At a time when Republican attempt to rewrite history to air brush their atrocities from the record we must remember with pride the service and sacrifice of those brave men and women in the Police\, Local security Forces and the British Army who served for over a Century to keep us free. \n \nToday our country exists because of their courage and dedication to duty – our Fighting Fit Exhibition will look at the contribution we have made to security and democracy not just locally but globally. Local historians such as William Gordon will use their amazing collections of military artefacts to tell that story and help future generations better understand the legacy of those who came before.

It has proven a hit with all ages and abilities\, from the seasoned highland flinger to the near novice. It has been hosted in church halls\, orange halls and hotels as hundreds of people have learn traditional Scottish dancing and enjoyed a great  nights fun. \nThis year with restrictions and social distancing we sadly cannot organise the event we had planned but instead we have taken the music\, the moves and as much of the events of previous years and working with some of our Ceildh experts have provided a great Ceildh experience you can enjoy at home. \nAt this time when we are all trying to get enough exercise without gyms and organised sports this is perfect. We know exercise boosts our immunity\, lifts our spirits and helps to keep us healthy.  During difficult times dealing with COVID 19 we would like to thank the folks at Highland Hustle for providing some FREE resources for you to use at home. \n\nAs part of their efforts to get the nation back on their its feet they have released this video to encourage us all. \n\nFIGHT SON\, LOW IMPACT ROUTINE:\nOriginally filmed to reach out to a member who could not attend Highland Hustle due to serious ill health in 2019 but may be welcomed by some on the recovery from illness with an uplifting song!  This track may also be particularly suitable for the elderly. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMany of the routines on their website are aimed towards the less mobile or perhaps elderly. A very gentle routine which could be done sitting in a chair.  For example\, during the movement to the side just ‘march’ the feet on the spot from a chair. \nFor the younger dancers we have included this fun game to play and keep active. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHighland Hustle Snakes and Ladder Challenge!\nWho is going to be the first to finish the board game in your house?  Don’t worry if you don’t all know the moves … we have provided some short videos below with adaptions of movements so the whole family can learn and join in!  Or\, if you are the dancer in the family why not become teacher for the rest of you and have some fun! \nRemember to warm up for a few minutes before you take part! \nCLICK HERE TO VIEW A PDF OF THE GAME TO PRINT UP!\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA Sample of the Beginners Sessions\n\n\nLEARN BASIC PDB\, H’CUT\, SPRING POINTS & TOE AND HEEL

SUMMARY:Bands on the Box
DESCRIPTION:We each have a favourite part of the Twelfth and for many it is the sound and colour of our marching bands as they parade past us leading lodges to the field. SUMMARY:The Big Breakfast
DESCRIPTION:We are bring home the bacon\, eggs\, soda bread and all you need to have the Big Breakfast at home this year. Whether it is the Twelfth Morning or any day of the week we look at ways to make the traditional and a health alternative to the much loved Ulster fry. Each year before the Twelfth the ladies serve up much more than just an amazing breakfast\, but as part of the annual Twelfth Festival there is a great line up of entertainment and crack. \nSo as the sausages are sizzling and the bacon crisping you can enjoy some of the acts from previous years. Who could forget the mights ‘Hounds of Ulster’ as they listed the roof and got us all on our feet. \nhttps://iloi.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/1080p-2-1.mp4\n  \nThe tables are set for the next Big Breakfast when we are able to safely meet and enjoy it so until then we hope that you will make do with the sights and sounds of previous years and your own home cooking. \n  \nhttps://iloi.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/1080p.mp4\n  \nOrigins of the Ulster Fry \n\n\nThe fried breakfast is by no means unique to Ulster\, across the border they have the full Irish\, there’s the full English and Welsh\, with most regions of Britain and Ireland having their own variation on the fry-up. It might just be the time of year\, but we think the Ulster Fry has the others beat.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNothing new\n\n\nThe fry is very much a Victorian invention. One of the most famous Victorian cookbooks\, Mrs Beeton’s Book of Household Management\, listed a selection of the best cooked breakfast foods. Cooked breakfast was less common before the Victorian era than it is today\, but we have Mrs Beeton to thank for adding bacon and eggs to the world’s breakfast repertoire. What we think of as the traditional fried breakfast came into its own after World War II. As well as being known as the ‘Full English’\, the phrase ‘Full Monty’ is sometimes used instead\, owing to the fact general Bernard ‘Monty’ Montgomery supposedly started every day with a hearty English breakfast. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat’s the difference?\n\n\nBacon\, eggs and sausages (all fried) are common ingredients across all fry-ups\, but everything else is a matter of contention. The purist’s Ulster Fry consists of bacon\, eggs\, sausages\, black pudding and\, most importantly\, both potato bread and soda bread. Baked beans\, fried tomato\, mushrooms\, and white pudding are commonly added\, but hardcore traditionalists might reject these. The biggest sticklers might outright reject anything that can’t be fried in lard\, but that position is growing unpopular as time goes by. Indeed\, as people become more health conscious\, cooked breakfasts are moving towards grilling instead of frying. \n\n\n\n\nUlster Fry Courtesy of Food NI\n\n\n\n\nBaking and eggs\n\n\nThe two breads in the Ulster Fry are usually served in farls (short for fardell\, meaning a quarter\, and made by cutting dough into four pieces). Potato bread substitutes potato for some of the wheat flour and is usually mass produced as farls\, while soda bread is made with soda bicarbonate instead of yeast and can also be baked as a normal loaf. Although wheaten bread (soda bread made with wholemeal flour) is often served sliced in restaurants\, sliced soda would be quite unusual on a breakfast plate. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaking Your Own \nIngredients:\n2 eggs \n1 slice of potato bread \n1 slice of soda bread \n2 pork sausages \n2 back bacon rashers \n2 slices of black and white pudding \n1 red tomato \n  \nInstructions:\n1. Place a small amount of rapeseed oil in the pan over a low heat which produces a light sizzle not a spitting oil. \n2. When hot\, place the sausages in the pan turning occasionally to colour evely all the way round. This should take approximately 8 minutes. \n3. Add the bacon rashers to the pan. Don’t turn your bacon too early – wait for the colour to appear on the edges. For a healthier option you can grill the bacon. Either way\, cook the bacon until crispy but not brown and burnt. \n4. Place the potato and soda bread in pan. The soda will soak up all the delicious flavours and the potato bread will brown on the outside and soften wonderfully in the middle. \n5. Use tomatoes on the vine as they retain their firmness and flavour for longer. Tomatoes should always be a little crispy. Cook the tomatoes for several  minutes alongside your breads. \n6. Put the slices of black and white pudding in the pan and continue to cook everything for a couple of more minutes – after 2-3 minutes flip everything over. After a further 2 minutes cooking move all the ingredients into a warmed oven and clean your pan. \n7. In a little fresh oil\, crack 2 large free range eggs\, place a lid over the pan to cook the top of the eggs for perfect runny eggs.

SUMMARY:Centenary Banner Parade
DESCRIPTION:To launch the ILOI’s Centenary of Northern Ireland Programme of events Garryduff ILOI No. 15 and Garryduff Flute Band have organised a parade of banners. The parade will see banners rom a range of the Loyal Orders and will mark events in history which led up to the Centenary. The skill and time invested in making a banner is often only seen one a year at the Twelfth\, so it is always great to see the banners making an appearance more often. \nThey are amazing pieces of art in their own right\, many are the artists own interpretation of famous paintings by some of the worlds most renowned artists. Nowhere else in the world is art literally brought to the people and paraded before them. Many who have never visited an art gallery or museum will be able to see some of the finest scenes and paintings ever made. \nAside from the art the banner is the colours of the lodge. Just as a regiment parades its colours proudly and sees them as an embodiment of the regiment so too do lodges see their banners as more than just a piece of material. \nSo come and see the banners on parade tonight. Or if you are a Lodge\, Encampment\, Club Preceptory or Band bring your banner\, bannerette\, flag or colours along to the parade and lets see as big a turn out as possible. \nA social evening to follow in line with current restrictions and guidelines.

SUMMARY:Centenary Banner Parade
DESCRIPTION:Banners hold an important place in Orange culture. Evolving from a flag which served a similar role to regimental colours the Orange banner gre in size until it was necessary to be carried by two men. \nThe Orange Banner is an Iconic symbol of fraternal organisations in Northern Ireland. It is also something we have exported to the world\, with banners now seen on parade across the globe. The banners usually depict scenes of historic or religious significance\, most carry an image of William Prince of Orange often in the iconic representation of the King on his white charger. \nBanners tell a story and embody what is important to lodge. They are hand painted and often represent months of fundraising and planning. So lets tell our story with pride and showcase as many Orange Banners as we can to mark the centenary of Northern Ireland. \nCome along and carry your lodges banner\, or your bands bannerette or colours with pride.
