Faith & Freedom 250 Festival Opens with Community Celebration in Ballymena

The Faith & Freedom 250 Festival will officially open on Friday 3 July with a launch event at the Braid Centre, Ballymena, marking the beginning of a landmark programme commemorating the 250th anniversary of American Independence and the deep historic ties between Ulster and the United States. Organised by McNeillstown HMC in partnership with the Independent Loyal Orange Institution, the festival will run throughout July and bring together heritage, music, scholarship and community celebration under the themes of Faith, Freedom and Foundation.

Festival organisers say anticipation has been steadily rising as the opening day approaches. A spokesperson for the committee described the launch as “a moment of real pride for everyone involved,” adding:

“This festival has been months in the making, and the excitement across our lodges, bands and community groups is unmistakable. The launch at the Braid Centre is our chance to welcome the public, set out the vision for the festival, and begin a celebration that honours our shared heritage on both sides of the Atlantic.”

The launch event will introduce the festival’s themes and outline the programme of events that will follow across the district. Representatives from McNeillstown HMC and the Independent Loyal Orange Institution will address attendees, reflecting on the significance of the 250th anniversary and the enduring connections between Ulster‑Scots emigrants and the American story. The opening will also highlight the festival’s commitment to community participation, cultural education and intergenerational engagement.
