The annual Somme Parade organised by Ballymoney Independent District No. 1 was a fitting end to Armed Forces Day. With larger than normal crowds attributed to many who were returning from Armed Forces Day made it a real success. Led by Benvarden Flute Band the parade saw all the local Loyal Orders represented.

The Imperial Grand Master welcomed members of the Grand Lodge of Ireland, Apprentice Boys of Derry, Ancient and Illustrious Order of Knights of Malta and a strong contingent of Ladies and Junior Lodges.

The memorial parade marched to the War Memorial where a service was organised by the ILOI with the new Imperial Grand Master Phil Moffatt speaking, and Bro Mervyn Storey leading in prayer.

He spoke on the sheer scale of the sacrifice and how for so many thousands of those brave sons of Ulster it would be their last day. In a powerful message the assembled ranks were reminded that none of us can boast of tomorrow!

Wreaths were then laid by a number of men and women from the respective Orders.
